On x Atmos Cloudmonster 1 Waterproof Brings Dry-Garden Design to a Chunky Runner
Two Japanese dry-garden-inspired colorways give On’s waterproof Cloudmonster 1 a new look, with toggle laces and the original cushioned construction.

On’s Cloudmonster 1 Waterproof already has the technical outline of a substantial running shoe. The Atmos collaboration changes its visual language: two muted colorways, a circular ripple motif and toggle laces bring Japanese dry-garden references to the chunky silhouette. The underlying waterproof build and cushioning remain in place, so the appeal rests on a fresh design wrapped around familiar equipment.

AtmosOn has built a strong reputation in performance running and has also moved into lifestyle footwear. This release gives the Swiss brand a more explicit streetwear angle through Atmos, the Japanese sneaker retailer. The pair is based on the Cloudmonster 1 Waterproof, with its technical platform retained beneath a redesigned upper.

Dry-garden cues in two colorways
The design draws on Japanese dry gardens, where patterns raked into sand suggest ripples across water. Here, a circular motif radiates from the On logo, giving the shoe’s upper a clear focal point. It’s a restrained idea suited to the Cloudmonster’s already prominent shape: the pattern adds detail without changing the shoe’s broad proportions.

The two versions are called Eclipse and Dew. Eclipse uses black as its main color, with silver details on the logo and toe; Dew pairs a light beige upper with olive green at the heel. Both carry their dominant shade down into the sole, while the olive heel counter provides a shared accent. The palette references the sand and stone of minimalist garden settings, rather than the brighter colors often associated with performance footwear.

Technical construction stays familiar
Under the new styling, the shoe keeps its Helion foam midsole and On CloudTec cushioning pods. An X-shaped Speedboard plate sits within the midsole to provide support and spring, while the Missiongrip rubber outsole is designed to offer traction across varied surfaces, including wet ground. Those details describe the construction; they don’t establish how the shoe will perform on any particular route or in changing conditions.
The waterproof mesh upper is paired with synthetic overlays and hidden eyelets, which preserve a relatively clean exterior. Toggle laces replace a conventional lacing arrangement and reinforce the outdoors-influenced styling. Reflective detailing remains on the On branding, while the large logo treatment at the mudguard has been removed. These are modest changes to a familiar platform, but together they make the collaboration easy to distinguish from the standard model.

That combination makes the pair relevant to two kinds of buyer: runners interested in the Cloudmonster 1 Waterproof platform, and sneaker fans drawn to the Atmos color and material treatment. The design leans toward everyday wear, but the shoe’s waterproof construction and grippy outsole remain part of its stated specification. Anyone choosing it for outdoor use should still match footwear to the terrain, weather and demands of the outing.

At ¥28,600, the collaboration asks buyers to weigh the familiar waterproof Cloudmonster build against a limited visual update and the Atmos connection. Its strongest distinction is the balance of low-key color, garden-inspired graphics and unchanged running hardware—a design-led take on a shoe that still carries practical features for wet conditions.
