Small Class C Motorhomes for 2027: Compact Floorplans for Couples and Families

Small Class C motorhomes can bring a kitchen, bathroom and beds for four or more into a coach that’s easier to drive and park than a larger rig. For 2027, the choices range from a 20’4″ van-based model to a 27’1″ coach with two slide-outs. The right fit comes down to what you need inside: more sleeping places, a separate shower, storage for bulky gear, or a layout that works without extending slide rooms.

These shorter coaches suit solo travelers and couples, families, first-time motorhome buyers and owners downsizing from a larger RV. Their compact footprints can make campground access, fuel stops and everyday driving less demanding. All the picks below measure under 28 feet, and the shortest group includes four models between about 20 and 22 feet.

What to expect from a small Class C

Class C motorhomes typically range from about 20 to 40 feet long. The models in this selection are under 28 feet, and include both slide-free layouts and designs that expand living space at camp. They can cost less than Class A and Class B RVs, while offering a variety of floorplans in a compact package.

The smallest models here include a toilet and shower, though the bathroom arrangements differ. Some use a wet bath, where the toilet and shower share one space; others provide a separate shower or a split bathroom. Sleeping capacity also depends on converting a dinette or lounge, so check whether the advertised beds suit the way your group travels.

Smallest Class C motorhomes: about 20 to 22 feet

At this size, every inch of floor space has a job. These four models have no slide-outs, and each includes a toilet and shower. The main trade-offs are how the sleeping areas convert, how many passengers the coach can carry, and whether you prefer a wet bath or a more separated washroom.

Winnebago Resa 19DC

The Resa 19DC is built around carrying gear as well as people. Its rear garage takes bikes and bulky equipment through a hatch for travel, then converts into a lounge or dining area at camp. A power-lift residential queen bed lowers from the ceiling, and the sofas fold down; together, the spaces sleep up to four.

At 20’4″, it rides on a RAM ProMaster® chassis and is the narrowest model described here, at 7’6″ wide and about 10’3″ tall. The bathroom uses a pivoting wall to turn a dry toilet room into a 24″ x 30″ shower. Its cassette toilet needs to be emptied by hand rather than emptied through a black tank. Dealers may list the coach as either Resa or Elora.

The Freedom Elite 19HE puts a U-shaped dinette across the rear rather than giving that space to a fixed bed. It’s a useful arrangement for a solo traveler who wants a place to eat, play cards or read, then convert the dinette into a bed at night. Another option is leaving the dinette set up and sleeping in the cabover.

A flip-up counter extends the galley’s prep area, while a wet bath fits the toilet and shower into a small footprint. The 19HE is a straightforward choice for travelers prioritizing a short coach and flexible living space.

Thor Coleman 19CX

The Coleman 19CX puts passenger seating ahead of galley space. It sleeps four and has seat belts for up to six, a combination that can work for a larger family using the coach as a base for outdoor trips. Two facing benches have removable tables, making a shared place for meals and games. The benches convert into two small beds or one full-width sleeping space, so travelers will need to decide how that arrangement works alongside the cabover bunk.

At 21’3″, the slide-free coach includes a rear wet bath and wardrobe. Its galley is smaller than the Freedom Elite 19HE’s, but the private rear washroom and group seating may matter more for families traveling together.

For a full bathroom in a coach under 22 feet, the Redhawk SE 20LF measures 21’11″ and separates the toilet and shower rather than combining them in a wet bath. Like the 19HE, it uses a rear U-shaped dinette as a daytime gathering space that converts into a bed.

A 12V refrigerator, wardrobe and overhead cabinets cover key storage needs. The coach is built on a Ford® E-350 chassis with a 7.3L V8. An optional 200-watt solar panel with dual controller and second house battery is available for travelers considering trips away from hookups.

Class C options under 25 feet

Slide-outs start appearing in this group. The College Avenue 2201S is the smallest model here with a slide, at 23’10″. A slide can add usable room once parked, while slide-free alternatives keep the interior accessible during travel stops.

The College Avenue 2201S pairs an upscale interior with features for camping into shoulder seasons. Solid-surface countertops and soft-close hardwood cabinets give the space a residential feel. The galley includes a three-burner cooktop, 12V refrigerator and flip-up counter.

A slide-out holds the rear queen bed, freeing up bedroom floor space. The bathroom sink sits outside the bathroom, which can let one traveler wash up while another showers. The Arctic Package adds 12V tank heaters and a heat pump; Starlink® preparation is also included.

For a no-slide floorplan, compare the College Avenue 2001NS.

The slide-free Freedom Elite 21HE sleeps up to five and gives travelers a dedicated full-size bed in the camp-side corner. Compared with the 19HE, the additional four feet also make room for a full shower and a larger closet. A cabover bunk and convertible seating provide sleeping space for children or guests.

A 32″ swivel TV in the cabover can face the bunk or the dinette. With no slides to extend, the bed, bathroom and kitchen remain accessible at rest stops, and there are fewer slide mechanisms to maintain. Those features suit travelers who want more room but prefer a simple setup.

Forest River Forester LE 2151S

Forest River Forester LE

The Forester LE 2151SLE replaces a standard booth dinette with a larger U-shaped version. That can give a couple a more comfortable convertible sleeping area, while two additional seat belts make this layout an option for a family of six. The slide-out contains the dinette and a wardrobe, opening up room to move through the central living area.

The bathroom is split, with its sink outside the main room. That setup can help a group get ready more efficiently. For families who want six seat belts and a larger gathering space in a coach under 25 feet, this is a floorplan to compare closely.

Jayco Redhawk SE 22CF

The Redhawk SE 22CF adds a defined bedroom without moving into a larger size class. Its 60″ x 70″ corner queen sits in a slide-out, with dual nightstands and overhead storage. A central pantry and wardrobe add room for supplies, while the booth dinette and cabover bunk bring total sleeping capacity to five.

Unlike the College Avenue’s split bath, the 22CF puts the bathroom in one room, adding privacy. Jayco lists a two-year limited warranty and a three-year structural warranty for the Redhawk SE.

Compare the Redhawk SE 22AF.

Roomier picks under 28 feet

These three models approach 28 feet and use slide rooms to make more space for longer trips. They’re worth considering when a compact exterior still matters, but storage, sleeping comfort or bathroom room takes priority.

For longer trips with more clothing, food and equipment, the Redhawk 24B brings substantial storage into a 26’8″ coach. There’s a large rear bedroom wardrobe, a hall wardrobe, a pantry, and overhead cabinets and kitchen drawers. Its driver-side super slide carries the queen bed and U-shaped dinette, helping the living area feel larger once parked.

The galley has a three-burner cooktop and residential-size microwave, and a corner bathroom covers the essentials. It’s a practical balance for extended trips where storage and a roomy shared area matter.

Thor Eddie Bauer 25EBF

The Eddie Bauer 25EBF gives couples flexibility in how they sleep: its rear twin beds can remain separate or convert into a full-width king. The coach measures under 27 feet, and its under-storage compartment is accessible from both sides and the rear. That access can make it easier to organize long or bulky equipment such as fishing rods, inflatable SUPs, skis and snowboards.

For partners who want separate beds on some trips and a larger shared bed on others, the convertible setup is a clear selling point. The storage also leaves room to bring recreation equipment along.

Forest River Forester 2441DS

Forest River Forester

At 27’1″, the Forester 2441DS is the longest pick here and the only one with two slide-outs: one for the U-shaped dinette and another for the bedroom. The bedroom slide creates space for a 60″ x 74″ walkaround queen, so either person can get out without climbing over the other.

The full rear bathroom combines a private toilet with a 24″ x 36″ shower. A three-burner cooktop and 60″ x 80″ cabover bunk round out the layout. It offers the most room to move around in this group, with the extra length and slide-outs that entails.

Choosing between slide and no-slide layouts

The main decision is how you’ll use the coach between travel days. A slide-free model has fewer seals and motors to maintain, weighs less, and leaves the bed, bathroom and refrigerator accessible while stopped. That access can be especially useful when making a quick break on the road. A slide-out adds living space at camp, which can be welcome during longer stays or when the weather keeps everyone indoors.

If you move frequently and spend little time inside, a no-slide floorplan may be the simpler fit. If you expect to settle in for longer stretches, the extra space from a slide may be worth considering. In either case, check how the layout works with the coach closed as well as when fully set up.

Sleeping, dimensions and towing

Several models under 25 feet sleep four or more, including the College Avenue 2201S, Freedom Elite 21HE and Forester LE 2151S. In many compact layouts, the cabover bunk provides children’s sleeping space, with a dinette converting to an additional bed. Travelers who want dedicated bunks can also compare the Class C models with bunk beds.

The coaches on this list range from 20’4″ to 27’1″. Most cutaway-chassis models are about 8’4″ wide and around 11’6″ tall; the ProMaster-based Resa is narrower, at 7’6″, and about 10’3″ tall. Listed GVWRs range from 9,350 to 14,500 pounds, while GCWRs are roughly 11,500 to 22,000 pounds.

Tow ratings vary by chassis, from 2,500 to 8,000 pounds. The Freedom Elite 19HE and 21HE, Coleman 19CX and Eddie Bauer 25EBF are rated at 8,000 pounds. The College Avenue 2201S, Redhawk 24B and Forester 2441DS are rated at 7,500 pounds; the Redhawk SE 20LF and 22CF and Forester LE 2151S are rated at 5,000 pounds. The Resa 19DC is rated at 2,500 pounds. Match the rating to your intended load and the coach’s specifications.

None of these coaches fits in a single standard parking space. A typical US space is 7.5 to 9 feet wide and 16 to 20 feet long, while even the shortest model here is just over 20 feet long and about 7’6″ wide. Plan for two spaces end-to-end or a pull-through spot. For a vehicle that can fit in one space, compare Class B camper vans.

Small Class C shopping is a set of practical choices: sleeping arrangements, bathroom design, slide access, storage and vehicle dimensions all shape the trip. Start with the way you’ll travel, then check the floorplan and chassis figures against your passengers, gear and parking plans. For more options, see the best Class C RVs.
